I’LL READ YOUR SCRIPT

I read scripts of any length and genre.

I start by asking 10 essential questions about the script to give you a high-level overview of what has made it onto the page, quickly showing you what elements of the script are working well and which areas need some extra attention.

I will also make reaction notes as I read, marking them on the script itself, noting what emotional reactions I have in real-time so you know what beats are working, what jokes are landing, which characters I’m rooting for, and which ones are getting under my skin. Many people find this unique approach to be the best part of what I do, as so many readers focus on what is “wrong” with a script and offer “fixes” rather than highlighting your unique strengths and trying to understand what is trying to be said.

Along with my reaction notes, I’ll unpack the 10 essential questions at the right parts of the script so it’s plain to see, offering ideas, techniques, and methods that I have picked up along the way to help you improve. I’m very much a reader who is looking for what you do well and spotting opportunities where you can do more of it, rather than solely focussing on what I feel doesn’t work.

From my experience, the overly critical “fix all the problems” approach completely disregards what is working well in your script, doesn’t praise or highlight your skills as a writer, makes no attempt to understand the story, and ultimately is a fast-track to development hell.

In a nutshell, I encourage writers.

In the past few years, I’ve worked with over 1000 writers and I’m pleased to say all have been happy with my notes. Here are a few testimonials...

Adam’s notes were brilliant; thoughtful, imaginative, and really helpful. I felt really confident sending my pilot to production companies, and it was subsequently optioned by Hat Trick. I valued Adam’s input so much I have asked him to look at my new project too and have recommended him to friends.
— Amy Mason (HARD LABOUR, in development)
Adam gave me excellent, thoughtful and detailed notes which renewed my excitement for a script and I recommend getting in on this before he’s bombarded by bigwigs with briefcases lined with cash.
— Cameron Loxdale
Adam gave me brilliant notes on my pilot and has given me the excitement I’ve needed to get back on it and redraft now !!! He’s so generous to give his time so writers send send send him what you have
— Isobella Hubbard
Writers get in touch with Adam Lavis - he gave me very generous and useful script notes, which really helped me see my script from a different point of view, his questions and points helped me work out what kind of film I wanted to make.
— Rory Tregaskis
Hugely insightful, generous and encouraging notes. Thanks again for giving me your time, Adam. All comedy writers should get on this nowwwww - your script will thank you, I swear it
— Dana Sutherland
Do this! It’s a no brainer. Unlike Adam’s notes, which are full of brain. Honestly - I didn’t expect anything half as thorough or insightful as what Adam provided and I can’t wait to improve my script massively by acting on his notes. DO IT.
